De 100 canciones, ¿cuál es la mejor de los Beatles?

Esa misma pregunta se hicieron los responsables de la revista Rolling Stone que crearon una lista con 100 canciones de los Beatles y fueron eligiendo las mejores hasta que llegaron al greatest hit. El objetivo principal de confeccionar dicha enumeración era observar la evolución musical y compositiva que tuvo la banda en sus diez años de existencia.

En palabras de Elvis Costello: Fue un grupo que pasó de hacer letras sencillas de amor a historias adultas, como “Norwegian Wood”, que habla de la cara agridulce del amor, o a otras canciones que recogían ideas más importantes de las que cabría esperar de un grupo de pop pegadizo. ¿Y cuál es el mejor tema de los de Liverpool según Rolling Stone? “A Day In Life”, compuesta por John Lennon y Paul McCartney y perteneciente al Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

La revista apunta que es “la mejor colaboración entre los dos artistas”, aunque no fue reconocida como obra maestra hasta los años 80, después de la muerta de Lennon. Para componerla se inspiraron en los periódicos y en la vida del propio John, así como en la idea de McCartney de contar con músicos clásicos.
